Usage Pattern

How we calculate this

Units: Monthly Bill ÷ Tariff, plus your appliance load (e.g., ₹5,000 ÷ ₹8 = 625 units). A bi-monthly bill is halved to a monthly figure.
Required kW: Monthly Units ÷ 120 (TN average yield)
Savings: Daytime usage at full tariff + night export at ₹2.5/unit
Payback: Net cost (after subsidy) ÷ Annual Savings (~5–6 years typical)
25-yr savings: Annual savings compounded at 2% tariff escalation
Investment: ₹55,000–60,000 per kW (Chennai market rate, 2026)
PM Surya Ghar subsidy: Homes & apartments get ₹30k/₹60k/₹78k for 1/2/3 kW, capped at ₹78,000 — deducted to show your net cost.

Estimates use Chennai-region average irradiance (4.5 kWh/m²/day) and TANGEDCO tariff structures. Your final number may differ by ±10% based on shading, roof orientation, and panel choice.

Government solar subsidy — made simple

Put solar on your roof and the Government of India pays part of the cost. The bigger your system (up to 3 kW), the bigger the subsidy.

1 kW rooftop solar

₹30,000

Maximum subsidy

2 kW rooftop solar

₹60,000

Maximum subsidy

3 kW rooftop solar

₹78,000

Maximum subsidy

The subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 — it does not increase even if your system is bigger than 3 kW.
Example: install a 3 kW rooftop system and you get ₹78,000 back from the government.
